If you have been around here for a while you know that I love Concrete Collaborative. A tile & paver company who offers what feels like the entire rainbow of colors of encaustic tile, a growing library of patterned tile and a gorgeous terrazzo selection that I adore. Concrete Collaborative (I’m going to just say CC- cause you know who by now) played a huge role in my ability to express creativity with colors, patterns and natural materials in #ProjectSoCalCasa.

In this video we talk about my daughter’s bathroom which I am now affectionately referring to as a Vibrant Organic Hacienda in style.

Vibrant because of the bright & saturated colors.

Organic due to the use of natural materials like plastered walls and the bits of aggregate in the terrazzo but even the ceramic sink and concrete tiles have their material origin in organics.

Hacienda pays homage to our town’s nickname, Spanish Village by the Sea. I honed in on materials (plasters & varied concrete or clay), colors 🌈 and a few arches bring that Spanish feel.

This is a bold bathroom for a dynamic young college-bound woman. Let’s not talk about that now though. OK? Back to the bathroom.

Let’s get right to tile. This tile is from the Strands Collection by CC. Strands is an encaustic cement tile. Which simply means that a mineral pigment is hand poured with a concrete base to make the colors in the tile. So with my “client” aka my daughter, we selected 9 beautiful hues in the 8 inch Strands tiles.

Here are the colors: Lichen + Purple + Acacia + Diablo + Mosaic Blue + Lilac + Dove + Pink + Ferrari Red

We created a pattern for the nine tile colors on the main bathroom floor, however we took the opportunity to create a random layout with the same colors in her shower. I’m a firm believer that in design there are very few wrongs and rights, but more simply there are various preferences. Pairing these dynamic colors in both pattern form and random layout was made possible by the calming nature of the bone color plaster shower walls allowing the floor to be the show.

For her counters I looked to the Pacifica line Concrete Collaborative offers. Because I didn’t need an entire slab I was able to select a remnant slab from the San Marcos slab yard (this is in same the location of the main showroom you see featured in the video. We chose the Alabaster WRQ aka an Alabaster (white) color concrete base with an aggregate of White Round Quartz added.

Terrazzo countertop in Alabaster.

Every terrazzo counter top CC offers is a base color of concrete and the addition of marble, quartz or granite aggregate to add that gem-like quality. Terrazzo is truly the gem of the space, featuring some of the most beautiful stone sprinkled and exposed throughout the surface.

The Alabaster WRQ appears a soft white from afar but close to the slab an entire world of perfectly sliced and polished quartz bits sparkle, practically winking at you. Her terrazzo counters are the calm white we needed to compliment the vibrant floor tile but still hosts a world of subtle visual interest.

Terrazzo countertops have the most intriguing way of captivating your attention. Much like the natural movement in a marble slab, terrazzo holds the the same geological wonders that lead your eye around the slab in awe of what this beautiful earth provides.

The materials are not only beautiful, but durable and produced in an environmentally preferable manner. The Concrete Collaborative production facility catches, filters & recycles all of the water from the pouring, cutting and polishing process.

Our Vibrant Organic Hacienda was made possible because of Concrete Collaboratives epic swath of colors available in their Strands Collection. Hope it inspires you to go bold in your own home.
